This group consists of 30 individuals who are enthusiastic about information technology but have little to no previous experience. Three courses assuming little to no previous experience have been curated for delivery to participants between October 25 and December 17, 2021. Combined with in-classroom support from experienced professionals, this programme is designed to provide a sound digital skills footing for selected participants. This could lead them to IT Systems technician positions or business management roles in Information Technology.
Information Technology Essentials, Get Connected, IoT Basics
Course 1 (2 weeks): To help with acquiring digital skills, the introductory Get Connected course provides a better understanding of the Internet, computers and social media. Participants learn how to use a computer, connect devices and access search, email, and social media.
They also learn the Core Skills to:
– Create accounts for Facebook, LinkedIn and YouTube.
– Understand computer networking and how to browse and search the Internet.
– Become familiar with Microsoft Windows and how to work with files and folders.
– Identify common problems and implement solutions.
Course 2 (5 weeks): The IT Essentials course series introduces students to computer hardware and software, operating systems, networking concepts, mobile devices, IT security, and troubleshooting.
The content covered will assist the student in developing the skills necessary to work as a technician in the field of IT. This training integrates practical skills training to help participants succeed in future educational, entrepreneurial, and occupational endeavors. In addition to learning the fundamentals of hardware, software, and operating systems, students develop problem solving, critical thinking, collaboration, communication, negotiation, and entrepreneurial skills, which can help them succeed in today’s global workplace.
Course 3 (1 week): The IoT Basics course introduces the Internet of Things and teaches skills to help participants transform any business in any industry, from manufacturing to saving endangered species. In real-life all around us today, 26 billion people, systems, and physical objects are connecting and sharing data seamlessly over the internet. They will learn how IoT is changing the world and the IoT skills needed to land a well-paying job.
They will also learn these core skills:
– Learn how the current digital transformation is creating unprecedented economic opportunity.
– Understand how the IoT is bridging the gap between operational and information technology systems.
– Discover how standard business processes are being transformed.
– The security concerns that must be considered when implementing IoT solutions.
